Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is a first-person tactical shooter video game developed and published by Ubisoft. Considered as a successor to the now cancelled Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots, Siege puts heavy emphasis on environmental destruction and cooperation between players. Unlike previous entries in the series, the title has no campaign and only offers an online multiplayer modes.

Unlike your typical first person shooters, Siege changes the formula it is not just running and gunning, dying and then waiting for a respawn, each round you only get a single life, so if you die you are dead and thats why teamwork and planning is essential to this game. A good pair of headphones also goes a long way in helping you since you can detect enemies through the various sounds they make (footsteps, rappel noises, destruction etc).

There are 3 primary multiplayer modes, Casual, Ranked and Terrorist Hunt. Terrorist Hunt is the only PvE aspect of the game and its not that popular and is just filler. In the other 2 options you will be matched with 4 other players and 5 other opposition players and will begin a round in one of the 12 available matches. Each round is a Team Death Match with an added twist, meaning killing all your opponents can win you the round or completing the objective too.The 3 different types are-

  • Bomb- You attack/defend two different bombs planting the defuser near the bomb in which case the opposition team can still break it so you have to defend it for around 40 seconds.
  • Secure Area- This time you attack/defend a singular bomb and have to 'capture' it. Essentially attackers have to kill defenders around the vicinity of the bomb and then stand near it for 20 seconds, defenders can still challenge for it if they enter the area.
  • Hostage- You have to extract a hostage from a secured room, this is one of the trickier ones since you can also kill the hostage which will result in an automatic defeat

We have talked about the concept and modes but there is also one important part missing, the Operators themselves. The Operators are the characters you control during the matches. Currently, there are 30 unique operators (15 attackers and 15 defenders) and 1 generic operator known as "Recruit". Unique Operators have access to special "gadgets" which can be used to benefit their team (For Example: The operator Rook's armor packs are distributed to the defending team thereby increasing their armor level for the round). Recruits do not have access to special gadgets, but instead have the benefit of being able to choose weapons from any of the original five CTU's weapon set.

In Summary, Siege is a really enjoyable game if you enjoy a more slower paced, more tactical shooters. Ubisoft is also constantly supporting the game with new maps operators and even mid-season patches, so game is always remaining fresh and the playerbase is just growing everyday

Final Score-
9/10
