Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands Review

The Wildlands map, which is based on the Bolivia in South America is one of the largest that I have seen in the Tom Clancy’s lineup. The map consists of more than 20 provinces each with their own Santa Blanca cartel boss and special weaponry. The map includes different wilderness from deserts and mountains to lakes and jungles all of which play into how you approach the enemies and how you use the environment to use as a stealth advantage point.

Unfortunately, a lot of the vehicles do not control well which is a shame as the player is forced to use them to cover the enormous distance within the Wildlands map. Although there are fast travel points which greatly help cover some of the distance, it is still not an excuse as to why the player needs to do a ton of hurry-scurry to lift off a helicopter off the ground. Further aiding the problem often high priority targets will use the vehicle to escape and if you are stuck in your vehicle in a poor position the chances are the target will escape causing you to fail the mission.
As mentioned there is one boss for each of the province and in order to draw out the boss, there need to be 4-6 completed missions which are not pretty obvious. Missions consist of different interrogation techniques, blowing up bases, stealing documents and straight up genocide etc. But what keeps the adrenaline rush is the unexpected twist in your plan which is a classic for sandbox-style games. There are moments where you cross all the barrier and gunshot and finally reach home and when you think you are safe that’s when you get spotted and the hunt continues.

The game implements a skill tree determining your improvement but once you hit level 30, the max level it gets pretty boring. Wildlands also has the feature of multiple shooting. You just have to set your target and shoot, the firing will go off the same time. Unlike Co-Op where you have to set your target separately and shoot one at a time. The Co-Op is actually where the game shines the most. Although much harder, it allows other human objectivity to play into the game giving you a massively different experience. However playing in Co-Op means your team is just as smart as you are and may prioritize completing objectives more than reviving you when you are down, unlike when you are playing with bots on your team.

Overall it’s a good game to keep yourself busy when you have nothing to do. And could have used more variety in its missions. What finally saves the game is the amazing Co-Op experience it delivers and basically the sheer madness that is involved.

Overall rating 7.9/10
